The University of Oklahoma Outreach was selected earlier this year to publish the semiannual academic journal of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP). OU’s proposal to serve as publisher was selected from among other institutions in the nation with graduate liberal studies programs.
“We are very excited to assume this responsibility,” said James Pappas, vice president for Outreach and dean of the College of Liberal Studies. “It is a way for us to make a significant contribution to the field of graduate liberal studies and it also draws favorable attention to the university, to our program and to our expertise.”
Published in the fall and spring, the AGLSP journal features nonfiction, fiction and poetry from students, faculty and alumni of graduate liberal studies programs. The first OU-produced issue will appear in fall 2005 and will highlight the work of students at Duke University, whose Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
Pappas indicated the journal will undergo a design change following meetings with the association’s board of directors and focus group sessions of AGLSP members at the annual meeting in October in Minneapolis, Minn. The Outreach marketing and communication office will create a Web page for the journal that links with the association’s Web page.
Pappas will serve as publisher of the journal. Jerry Jerman, director of development for University Outreach, will serve as managing editor. The editor of the journal is R. Barry Levis, professor of history at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Lauren Park, Outreach Marketing/PR Specialist, is assistant to the editor.
