What OU’s Career Services Can Do for You

Students with OU Career Services

Nothing says the world is your oyster like just graduating from college. You’ve finished your studies and now all of your hard work is about to pay off. But it’s also time to start thinking about paying back any student loans you may have acquired.

After graduation, the next logical step is getting a job. But how in the world do you get hired in today’s tough, competitive job market? Planning a career can be a challenging, stressful endeavor—one that takes a lot of forethought before and after getting your degree. The University of Oklahoma Career Services is an excellent place to start.

They offer free customized career and job guidance based on your education, work experience (if any) and your future career goals.

Career Services also offers many useful online tools to current students. Setting up a HIREsooner account will give you easy access to full-time jobs, internships, on-campus interviews, career events and mentors. Other features include résumé and interview preparation. Not only can students plan their career fields, organize their resumes and practice job interviews, but they can also use several search engines to look for jobs on a national and global level. These services are not just limited to current students, either.

Alumni who are having a difficult time getting hired or are looking for a new career path can also use Career Services. Much like current students, alumni have the ability to set up a free HIREsooner account that gives you online access to:

  • An employer database
  • The OU Online Resume Books for employers to view your résumé
  • Optimal Resume to assist with creating a resume
  • Optimal Interview to practice interview skills and techniques
  • On-campus interviewing
  • Job boards
  • Career Shift
  • Passport Career
  • Going Global
  • Going Global USA

And at the risk of sounding braggy—but wait, there’s more! Career Services continues to go above and beyond to make the transition from graduation to getting a job as smooth as possible.

Career Services works with employers who are actively trying to recruit Sooners. Selling you is a part of OU Career Services’ job, and their partnerships with potential employers is just one way they accomplish it.

Employers have the ability to publicize jobs and internships on HIREsooner, as well as part-time positions through the Job Location Program. Future employers can also search student and alumni résumés, attend career fairs and conduct on-campus interviews.

While many online features are available to alumni, employers, family, faculty and students, students can also meet with a staff member in person at the Oklahoma Memorial Union, Suite 323. For contact information, directions and operating hours please visit the Career Services website.
