Museum Studies graduate David Lynx recently published a collection of objects and stories, entitled Voices in the Museum: Object Stories from the Yakima Valley Museum. The book, published in 2013 and available from Blurb, references an assortment of objects spanning twenty years at the museum. It offers a unique and intimate insight into the items that can be found in the Yakima Valley collections.
“What I wanted people to be able to do was to open the book at any page and read something about an object without having to start at the beginning and work their way through,” Lynx explained. “My focus at the museum has always been teaching visitors how much you can learn from objects.”
Lynx received his Master of Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Museum Studies in 1997 while working at the Yakima Valley Museum . In Fall of 2012, Lynx accepted a position as Director of the Larson Gallery at Yakima Valley Community College, where he also teaches Art Appreciation and Art History. He is currently compiling a history of the Larson Gallery and hopes to have it completed before its 70th anniversary in 2019.
