Fundraising and Budgeting
Now more than ever, fundraising and development activities serve as the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations. As social and economic change continue at a fast pace, more and more mission-specific nonprofit organizations are called upon to fill the gaps.
Fundraising and Budgeting shows students how to align the money side of philanthropy strategically with the organization’s vision and mission. A wide range of possible fundraising actions face the nonprofit leader, and constant oversight and management of these actions support the nonprofit organization’s success.
In the class, students learn to critique self-awareness needs of an organization to build a comprehensive and strategic fundraising plan. Students are also shown the variety of possible fundraising actions and how to link these actions to the organization’s budgetary needs in addition to learning how to compare and contrast the effectiveness of capital campaigns, individual gifts, estate gifts and annual giving.
But Fundraising and Budgeting goes beyond just the theoretical aspects of instruction, and students will be able to explain and develop a research plan regarding giving opportunities related to individuals, corporations and foundations. Additionally, the planning and design necessary for successful giving campaigns through technology related giving, like social media and targeted fundraising, is studied in depth.
Ultimately, students will leave the class with the ability to compose a plan to ensure that fundraising activities and donor relations are managed professionally and in the good faith of the communities the nonprofit organizations serve.
